A Guide to App, Work, and OpenAPI Tools

Knoon Agents use tools to help them complete tasks. There are three types of tools: App Tools, Work Tools, and OpenAPI Tools. Each tool type works in a different place and helps your agents do different kinds of actions.

App Tools

App Tools connect Knoon Agents to third-party apps such as Excel, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Canvas, and more. They allow agents to read or update information inside these apps.

To use an App Tool:

  1. Sign in to the connected service

  2. Choose the action you want the agent to use

Example:

In Google Sheets, you can select the action Read Sheets. This allows the agent to read data from your spreadsheet.

Work Tools

Work Tools connect agents to a Work Box inside your organization. The agent sends a task to the Work Box and the Work Box handles the work. When finished, the result is sent back to the agent.

Example:

If an agent has access to a refund Work Box, the agent can send a refund request to the Work Box. The Work Box team will check the request and return the approval result.

OpenAPI Tools

OpenAPI Tools allow agents to use APIs that your company or another company provides. These tools help connect Knoon to your own systems or special software.

Use OpenAPI Tools when:

  • You want to get or update data from a company system

  • You want agents to work with a custom service
